Summer Pool Safety Begins At Home

Drowning is the leading cause of death for children 1 - 4 years of age in Los Angeles County. An average of 120 drowning incidents in Los Angeles County each year: 20% of drowning incidents result in death, 75% of all drowning deaths occur in the backyard pool or spa. 40% of all drowning happen on Saturdays and Sundays. NEVER allow children to be alone when near water, make sure an adult is present

If a child or adult is in trouble in the pool: Don’t panic, yell for help. Get the child/adult out of the pool immediately. Call 911 immediately for emergency medical service. Begin CPR, if necessary. If you are not trained in CPR, follow the telephone instructions from the Fire Department until help has arrived on the scene.
